Lot 197
1980 Volkswagen Type 183 Iltis 4x4
Registration no.
Chassis no. 18A0901167
Introduced in 1978, the Volkswagen Type 183 Iltis (polecat) was a light jeep that replaced the DKW Munga and VW Beetle-based Type 181 in German military service. Volkswagen had acquired Audi (and with it DKW, another member of the defunct Auto Union) in 1965 and its new military vehicle would be based on the Munga, incorporating the Audi 100s 1, 760cc four-cylinder engine and other components. The Type 183s most important development was its new four-wheel drive transmission system, which would later form the basis for that of the Audi Quattro road car. Approximately 9, 500 were built between 1978 and 1988. This Iltis is offered with Spanish registration paperwork.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
