Horch's 853A was introduced at the end of 1937 as the latest evolution of the company's sophisticated eight-cylinder Grand Tourer. It featured a slightly shorter (3, 450mm) wheelbase; a 120bhp engine; an all-synchromesh four-speed transmission with overdrive; and a different final drive ratio together with a number of cosmetic refinements. Only 342 examples of the sporting 853A were produced, the most desirable being the handsome and distinctive Sport Cabriolet by Gläser Karosserie of Dresden, a company noted for their elegantly proportioned and beautifully built cabriolet bodies on a wide variety of chassis. Approximately a dozen are known to survive.
First registered on 11th November 1939, this magnificent Horch 853 Sport Cabriolet was purchased by the current owner in 1987 from Rodeo Coach (purchase invoice on file ). One of the great European motorcars of its era, it comes with an original German Fahrzeugbrief; old German TüVs; an old US Title from Florida; and a Manuel d'atelier pour Horch 853.
