Introduced in 1963, the Lancia Fulvia was a revolutionary car for the early 1960s. Featuring front-wheel drive and a V4 engine, it stood apart from most of its competitors. Five years later, two coupés joined the range: a factory-built coach and a "Sport" coupé designed by Ercole Spada for Zagato. Initially fitted with a 1, 200cc engine delivering 80 horsepower and an all-alloy body, it weighed just 950 kilograms. In 1967, it received the more powerful 1, 300cc engine producing 87 horsepower. From the 710th Fulvia Sport onwards, aluminium was phased out for the bodywork, limited to the front panels only, and eventually abandoned entirely by 1970.
This Fulvia Sport Zagato, first registered in Italy in 1967, is a rare all-alloy 1. 3-litre version. Its history can be traced back to 1982, when it was registered in the Brescia region. By 2016, it had moved to the Rome area before being imported to France in 2019. The current owner acquired the car in 2020. Expertly prepared for historic competition, it is equipped with widened fenders, lightweight wheels, a six-point roll cage, semi-bucket seats, and a kill switch. Several windows have been replaced with plexiglass to further reduce weight. This exceptional Fulvia Zagato will be offered with its old French registration document and its Italian Certificato Chronologico.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
