In the mid-1960s, 50% of Ferraris produced were four-seater models, and following the success of the marque's first 2+2 model, the 1960 250 GTE, Ferrari presented its successor, the 330 GT 2+2, in 1964. Its replacement, the 365 GT 2+2, was launched at the Paris Motor Show at the Grand Palais in October 1967. Its design reprised the forms of the highly exclusive 500 Superfast, while the quality of its finishings and its comfort made it the most luxurious model in Ferrari's range.
Based on the contemporary 330 GTC, its chassis was, as was usually the case at Ferrari, an assortment of cylindrical and ovoid tubes, and was fitted with independent shock absorbers at all four corners (for the first time on a 2+2 Ferrari), complemented by a hydro-pneumatic self-levelling rear suspension system developed by Koni. Among the changes intended to make it more comfortable, the 365 GT 2+2 was also fitted with engine mounts, and ZF hydraulic assistance was added to the steering. Lastly, air conditioning became standard, which was rare for a Ferrari at the time.
Producing 320 hp on the 365 GT version, the now renowned V12 4. 4L engine was coupled with a five-speed gearbox, all allowing the GT to demonstrate excellent performance: a maximum speed of 152 mph and 0 to 60 mph in 7 seconds. To hold this beautiful GT back, Ferrari fitted Girling ventilated brake discs to its four wheels. Representing the perfect blend of well-honed handling and comfortable shock-absorption, the 365 GT 2+2 was described by Car magazine as "the most civilised Ferrari yet".

Leaving the factory in January 1970, this Ferrari 365 GT 2+2, chassis 12909, was painted Marrone Colorado and fitted with a beige Connolly leather interior. It was delivered new in Rome via the official dealership, Motor S. A. S. di Carla Allegretti e C. According to the marque's historian Marcel Massini, on 11 November 1971 its engine was sent back to the Modena factory to be restored. At this time, the car had 19, 600 km on the clock. The car then came into the hands of Alessandro Donatella in Rome in 1985. In 1995, Mr Torruella Noguera acquired it and registered it in Barcelona, before selling it in 2013 to a French national, Mr Roland. It entered the collection of its current owner in 2015. In the years since, despite hardly having been used, it has been maintained in working order. In late 2024, it was fully serviced.
Presented today in its rare original colours, it still has its period upholstery with a fine patina. Fitted with engine 12909, this Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 is an excellent means to access the world of 1960s Ferrari V12s.
It will be sold with copies of its Italian and Spanish documents from the 1980s to 2010, as well as its original French registration document and its Massini report.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
