Lot 81
c. 1950 Moto Guzzi 500cc Dondolino Racing Motorcycle
Registration no. unregistered
Chassis no.
Moto Guzzi's first successful customer racer was the Condor, introduced in 1938. After WW2 the Condor was revamped as the Dondolino (rocking chair), gaining a more powerful (33bhp) engine and shedding a little weight to tip the scales at 282lbs in race trim. A larger (260mm) front brake was new for 1947. The pre-war v-twin was the works team's favoured mount in the 500cc class in the late 1940s, despite which a Dondolino ridden by Enrico Lorenzetti proved good enough to win the 1946 Swiss Grand Prix. In 1947 the Dondolino cost 895 million Lire and only approximately 100 were made. The history of this machine is unknown. No Documents.
