Introduced in 1931, the six-cylinder 170 formed the mainstay of Mercedes-Benz production in the Depression years of the early/ mid-1930s. So successful was the original, that the 170 changed little until it was replaced in 1936 by the four-cylinder 170V. A landmark model, the 1. 7-litre 170V formed the mainstay of Mercedes-Benz output in the late 1930s and reappeared post-war in improved form, continuing in production until 1955.
It is understood that this example was purchased from Spain in 2013, joining the owner's private collection. Probably restored in the 1990s, although there is no confirming evidence, it is presented in excellent condition and comes with a current Dutch title; (copy) old Spanish title; some old photographs; and spare keys.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
