The fruit of Thierry Sabine's imagination, the Dakar Rally was organised for the first time in 1978 and quickly gained traction during the 1980s, already attracting personalities and drivers such as Claude Brasseur, Jacky Ickx, Patrick Tambay, Johnny Hallyday, Prince Albert of Monaco, Hubert Auriol, Mark Thatcher, Paul Belmondo, Daniel Balavoine, Michel Sardou, Ari Vatanen, Henri Pescarolo, Jacques Laffite, Jochen Mass, Juhan Kankkunen, Jean-Louis Schlesser and, more recently, Carlos Sainz, Sébastien Loeb... The list is long. A real adventure in mechanical and human terms, the glory of a Dakar win attracts the major carmakers to invest in rally raid, including brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Citroën, Volkswagen, Toyota or Audi. Yet in the face of this legion of off-roaders, Mini won six editions of the race between 2012 and 2021 thanks to the know-how of a German preparer: X-Raid. It was thus with BMW's support that the Mini adventure at the Dakar began in 2011. Who better to lead the project to victory than Stéphane Peterhansel, who had already won the race nine times, on two and four wheels. Thus equipped, the Mini and X-Raid won the Dakar Rally in 2012 and 2013 with Peterhansel, but also in 2014 (Nani Roma) and 2015 (Nasser Al-Attiyah). Then, in 2020, after Sainz and Peterhansel had both won the race for Peugeot, they won the 2020 and 2021 rallies respectively in the new Mini John Cooper Works Buggy. X-Raid's Q Motorsport branch then took Audi to victory in 2024, again with Carlos Sainz.

On the technical side, this Mini JCW Buggy (T1) uses a tubular chassis fitted with a 3. 0l Turbo-Diesel BMW engine producing 367hp for 800Nm of torque, with rear-wheel drive transmission via a six-speed sequential gearbox with integrated differential. All this is covered in a carbon/ Kevlar body in the iconic style of a Mini. This chassis, 0009, was assembled in 2017 and was entered for the Dakar Rally in 2018, crewed by Miko Hirvonen and Andreas Schulz, who would take 19th place overall. In 2019, this chassis won the Baja Dubai with Jakub Przygonski and Timo Gottschalk. In 2020, Stéphane and Paulo Fiuza took the Buggy to 3rd place in the Dakar rally, then with Edouard Boulanger, Stéphane Peterhansel won 4th place in the Rallye du Maroc and 3rd place in the Baja Hail.
2021 was an excellent year for chassis 0009, under number 302. Entered with "Mr Dakar" Peterhansel and Boulanger, the Mini JCW Buggy hoisted itself to the top of the ranking, 14. 51 minutes ahead of Al-Attiyah in the Toyota and 1. 01. 57 hours in front of their teammate, Carlos Sainz. While he won only 9 of the 12 stages of the 2021 Dakar Rally, Peterhansel showed unparalleled regularity; ahead from stage 2, he led the race from beginning to end.
Still with its Dakar 2021 livery, this Mini John Cooper Works Buggy will be sold with its FIA passport and German registration document. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a vehicle that won one of the most difficult motorsports events in the world, and what is more, with the event's most successful driver at its wheel! This Buggy remains a high-performance vehicle that could be entered for more races, but could also feature in a private collection.
