Lot 76
c. 1953 F. B. Mondial 175cc Monoalbero Racing Motorcycle
Registration no. unregistered
Chassis no.
The 175cc class was important in continental Europe and Mondial's 125 was duly bored-out to achieve the required extra capacity. Revving to 9, 000rpm, it produced 20bhp-plus. Riding one of the new 175cc singles, rising star Tarquinio Provini won the arduous eight-day 1, 989-mile Giro d'Italia in 1954 to start his debut season as a works rider in fine style.
This 175cc Mondial is said to have won the 1953 Milan-Taranto race, although there is no documentary evidence to support that claim; in fact, its history remains essentially unknown. The machine features magneto ignition and magnesium brakes and is believed to have never been restored. No documents.
As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
