These cars very rarely come along with such low ownership. This example was first registered on 26th May 1965 and supplied by J. Day( Chelmsford) Ltd. According to the original purchase invoice that is within the file, the gentleman ( Mr AJ Edge) part exchanged his A40 Somerset for this Austin and parted with the sum of £712. 00 !!
Although the purchase invoice is made out to Mr Edge, it has been registered from new to another gentleman in the locality (I can only assume it was purchased on his behalf). Since then it has remained in his family until we purchased it.
It is now displaying just 43684 miles. Still finished in its original colour scheme of Grampian grey/ cumulus grey with contrasting red leather.
The Austin has survived very well with an exemplary mot history. We have just put it through a new mot which it passed with flying colours, so it’s tested until January 2026. Since purchasing the car we have carried out some basic recommissioning including 4 new radial tyres, new battery and service, carburettor overhaul. It drives superbly and is still fitted with its original matching numbers engine. A full stainless steel exhaust is fitted.
The underside is excellent and there is nothing of concern. There is some pitting on the chrome but again it’s original. Obviously down to the new owner if they wish to address this, but in our opinion it would be best left. The seats are all original and drivers side is slightly worn ( but presentable). Dashboard is lovely and even has the original radio blanking panel in place. Headlining is in very good condition, new carpets and underlay have been fitted. All the gauges and switchgear are functioning correctly and engine maintains good oil pressure and temperature.
The history file contains the original drivers handbook, the previously mentioned purchase invoice, lots of old tax discs, mots, insurance paperwork etc. The boot toolkit is present and complete.
