Description
106 Rallye reg L298 WLB
What is it?
1994 Peugeot 106 Rallye S1 in Factory black. The antithesis of the modern crop of Hot Hatches.
One word describes the creation of the original 106 Rallye: Homologation.
Peugeot just needed to homologate a fixed number of road going cars to take the 106 racing, the target was international Group N and A rallying class, this meant a minimum number of road cars had to be produced. In line with homologation rules, 1, 000 examples of the S1 Rallye were produced from October 1993 to October 1995.
What’s it got?
The philosophy of ‘less is more ‘ certainly applies to the 106 Rallye. UK models were offered in Bianca White, Cherry Red or Black, all featuring distinctive Peugeot Talbot Sport striping down the flanks and across the offside bonnet corner.
One of the Rallye’s most distinctive visual features are the fully refurbished 5. 5x14in Michelin steel wheels finished in brilliant white,
Inside the lightweight theme continues, manual windows, three-spoke steering wheel, unmarked Sports-style seat with a repeated Peugeot Talbot Sport logo to go along with red seat belts and matching red carpet
Supplied new and noted on the sales invoice are the rare Peugeot accessory dashboard storage tray and headlamp protectors.
How does it drive?
Dropping a 1294cc TUJ2 100bhp version of Peugeot’s venerable TU-series four-cylinder into a car weighing just 825kg produced a light, sharp and focussed car that handles beautifully with surprising grip and a superb ride. The figures of 121bhp/ ton 0-60 of 9. 6sec and a top speed of 113mph are beguiling, throw a Rallye into any corner and it will make you laugh out loud encouraging to do it again but faster!
Why this one??
Here at Wizard Classics, we have a reputation for finding high grade 106 Rallyes… finding a good example more than 32 years on is a difficult task, ‘how many left’ shows just 105 taxed and on the road in 2024 (with some 484 back in 2010). What does that mean? People are squirrelling these cars away. Take note!
This one former keeper car remains totally original andunmodified, d having only 36k warranted miles backed up old MOT’s and original service documents.
Used by the first owner from 1994 until the car went in dry storage in 1999 (26 years). The car benefitted from a full recommission in 2020 with a Peugeot specialist and has covered less than 250 miles since.
Underneath the car is exceptional, untouched, showing the original factory finish. Likewise, inside is immaculate and totally original.
Coming with the original sales invoice, dealer plates, dealer stickers, NOS rubber floor mats, windscreen stickers, operator manual, all keys, radio, unopened dealer supplied washer fluid bottles etc. It’s all there!
The 106 Rallye offered a pure and simple driving experience at a time when the automotive world was going technology mad. Like a basic Nokia in a world of smartphones, it was a car that did exactly what it set out to do with no hassle, no fuss, just a whole heap of smiles.
