Produced for ten years from 1962, the New Class (Neue Klasse) models are credited with saving BMW after the company's financial crisis of the 1950s and establishing BMW's identity as a builder of sporting saloon cars
The first New Class vehicle was the 1500, a four-door compact executive car with BMW’s new overhead cam four-cylinder engine, with the 1, 990cc '2000' introduced in 1965
Styling was overseen in-house by Wilhelm Hofmeister with collaboration from Giovanni Michelotti and included the arrival of the twin front 'kidney' grilles and the 'sharknose' a BMW trademark for the next 40 years
Purchased new by our vendor's late father from Park Lane BMW on 30/ 03/ 1972 and inherited by our vendor 12 years ago
Off the road and in storage (1987-2012) prior to a £25, 000 - £30, 000 photo-documented full 'nut & bolt' restoration, mainly by Sussex Classics and completed in 2019
New/ old stock parts were sourced worldwide whenever they could be found
Beautifully presented in its original Atlantik Blu, a real head-turner
The perfect classic, quick enough for day to day use yet stylish enough for fun at the weekends, sympathetically restored, family ownership and the start of a 'bloodline' that would give us the 2002Tii, the E30, the M3 and much more
