DESCRIPTION
The Mk2 Ford Escort was the successor to the very successful Mk1, Launching in 1975 basic examples were first introduced and quickly established as 'a must have car', With that in hand Ford quickly started to work on producing the next phase '1600 Sport' and 'RS' models which became an instant hit Worldwide and opened the gates into the rally scene which Ford dominated for many years
EXTERNAL
With having the distinctive lines you forget this examples over 40-years old, Displaying Ford 'Clifton Sands' paintwork (Paintcode 0L) Along with original panels throughout oozing the love and care this vehicle has endured throughout its lifetime
All panels are vibrant and glossy front to rear and present well with the very very odd minuscule blemish only to be expected, No rust throughout a very solid original undercarriage with original underseal present a true credit to its former ownership
From the front you have the distinctive full frontal black slatted grill housing the original Ford badge to the centre along with original 'Hella' round headlamps, With being the 'Sports' model a full frontal lower spoilers fitted which sits and present very well, Black metal wrap around corner bumpers sit straight and damage free along with overriders and 'Ford' embossed spot lights present
Front to rear the renown 'Sport' twin decals flaunt down both flanks along with the bonnet housing twin matching stripes again which presents in the best of condition, Passenger and drivers side rear view door mounted mirrors are fitted also to this example
To the rear a full wrap around black bumpers fitted along with original rear lights which remain crack free, All rear badging to the boot lid remains original and correctly positioned
Original stamped glazing throughout remains along with window rubbers which have weathered well and stood the test of time remaining tarnish free, Little chip to the windscreen however originality remains and we all know it's only original once!
INTERNAL
Open the drivers or passenger side doors and you step back into 'Nostalgia eighties era' With original 'Bitter Chocolate & Tan interior' Code ( 0C ) front and rear in very good original condition, Front seats with factory Headrests show little wear and no sagging furthermore the rears could quite easily have never been used they are like new which with low mileage presents one very special car
The bitter chocolate interior carpet similarly displays no wear thanks to overmats having been fitted along with the tan door cards front and rear which present beautifully, The interiors minimal, basic clutter free which works well on the two-tone Tan & Black dashboard which highlights the 'Sport' emblem on the passenger side of the dashboard along with a circular heater vent sitting to the left and neatly nestles a glove box underneath
To the centre two slide toggle switches for the vehicles heating are housed along with a push button 2-speed interior fan switch, The vehicles music systems housed underneath along with the push button hazard warning switch, Cigarette push-in lighter and push round half moon ashtray.. Very retro!
A square binnacle sits to the drivers side displaying Tachometer to the left, Temperature & Fuel level gauges to the centre and Speedometer in 'Km' to the right which displays 29338-Km which equates to 18229-miles having a round heater vent sitting to the right to complement
The Sport flat faced three spoke leatherette steering wheel remains original showing minimal wear which would be expected, The colour coded centre centre houses a 4-speed gear-lever which presents very well along with the 'quartz' time clock
The interior commemorates the outside and will take you back to the good old days simple, basic but more than enough!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Under the bonnet you will find the robust in-line four cylinder 1598cc Overhead Valve four cylinder petrol engine which remains in standard form producing around 84bhp, With the automatic choke one 'press' of the pedal and instantly fires into life, The engine bays immaculate along with informational stickers throughout
Mated to a 4-speed Type E (rocket) Gearbox along with rear wheel drive ensured the 1600 Sport offers a good balance between acceleration and general every day driving, Drive take ups smooth throughout the range offering a leisurely Sunday drive or for the more discerning a brisk offering can be had when required
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Having original wheels all round which present very well shod with 175/ 70/ R13 Tyres which emit ample tread, Having solid front caliper disc brakes to the front and drums to the rear coupled to a hydraulically operated master cylinder which ensures you a brought to a smooth precise gradual halt
HISTORY FILE
This lovely examples showing first registered on the 01-01-1980, Originality has been preserved and quite simply a credit to its former keeper who has loved and cherished it throughout
Showing original underneath with no signs of welding along with displaying original factory underseal originality does not get much better, It's not concourse but a very very usable example as is or put your own mark on it, Whichever you choose this is a fine example to add to a collection or start your journey into the classic car scene
The vehicle has been part of a private collection and remained that way until now has come the time to pass it on to its next owner who can cherish it for many years to come
