Description
For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 3 in Marine Blue (1974).
Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. 3 Former Keepers – all one family since new – father, son and brother. Incredible survivor with lovely patina. Original Galvanised Cappings.
We are thrilled to be able to bring you this most unusual of Series 3 Land Rovers® to the market, having been owned by one family since new in 1974 (3 keepers).
As one can see, this Land Rover® has survived without being interfered with every five years by one of a plethora of owners and so it survives today having never being fully repainted or seriously tampered with. The result is an unusually original survivor, from which a host of special features remain that rarely do get seen these days.
Externally, as the photos show, the bodywork is lovely and straight and enjoys the patina you see here, created by 50 years of rain on the horizontal surfaces….. whilst we love patina like everyone else, it is very difficult in our industry to present a vehicle like this as they have generally been kicked in….. and most patina lovers, we are guessing, would prefer a straight body which is generally very unusual as in this case. The galvanised cappings also survive in original order and have not been tampered with and the paintwork on the roof is the original too. Pretty much everything that you see externally is how it would’ve been when it left the factory, but with 50 years of weathering.
The interior follows the same narrative – the dash top and dash area are stunning and the original Land Rover® mats from the factory complement the footwells, along with the deluxe covering to the transmission tunnel. The seats are original, as is the 82, 000 miles from new. The headlining and deluxe interior is something that we have never seen before on a hard top Land Rover®. We are guessing that whoever ordered this truck as a van requested from the factory that a deluxe liner be fitted not just to the roof, but also to the vertical sides to assist with noise reduction and insulation. As you can see from the interior shots, this has survived in fantastic order and we doubt one would ever see this again. The original tool roll (as photo’d) is included in the sale and is a valuable and rare item in and of itself. There are hints of originality at every touch and press of this vehicle….. pull out the original choke cable and the choke light on the dash illuminates… very rare to find now. As previously mentioned, all elements of the dash have survived in amazing condition.
This vehicle starts with the first whiff of starter motor and as soon as one places ones hands on the steering wheel, it begins to turn with the merest amount of effort. The steering on this Series 3 is the lightest and nicest of any vehicle we have ever sold in 20 years of being in business – some claim we know, but it must be tried to appreciate that when these vehicles were new and in original condition, that the steering was never heavy nor indirect. Similarly, the brakes are progressive and the whole driving experience leaves you with a warm feeling.
This unusual Series 3 has been prepared to the same standards of all of our stock vehicles so it is all up together, fully warranted and ready to be driven and enjoyed and marvelled at down at your local pub. If however you would prefer the vehicle to sport a retail “shiny” finish, we can give you a very reasonable and fixed quote for that work.
