The Ford Sierra was manufactured and marketed by Ford of Europe from 1982–1993 and followed the unveiling of its controversial shape at the 1982 British International Motor Show in Birmingham, shortly followed by the 1982 Paris Salon de l'Automobile. Sales began on 15th October 1982, replacing the Cortina MkV. Its striking aerodynamic styling, first seen on the Probe III concept car in 1981, was such that many conservative buyers (including company car drivers) shunned its design over rivals such as the Vauxhall Cavalier. A saloon model debuted in 1987 with the introduction of the facelifted Sierra, the saloon was marketed as the Sierra Sapphire on the UK market. The front end was completely revised, with the biggest difference being the indicators now positioned above the bumper and to the side of a new headlight design. While the grille again remained blanked off, the UK, Irish, and South African versions of the newly introduced saloon version featured a unique shallow black grille between the headlights. The rear lights were replaced with slimmer but wider models containing separate stop lamps.
Supplied new by W. H. Perry (Ford) Limited, Rayleigh, on the 3rd December 1992 to first owner Mrs E. Ingram and in current ownership since 2020, this limited edition example of the Sierra, with its 1. 8 engine and 5-speed transmission, displays a credible c. 40, 791 miles. Evidently looked-after in previous long-term ownership 2009-2019, its time-warp condition has even seen the Sierra used to represent 1990s scenography in the Channel 5 (UK) TV documentary 'The Girl in the Box'. In current ownership, spring 2020 saw differential and transmission oil topped-up, fluids changed, new tailgate struts, an immobiliser fitted and Waxoyl applied. Autumn 2020 saw the fitment of a battery switch and new front indicator light lenses. Improvements continued to be made into the spring of 2021, with the driver’s door handle replaced, a Tracker fitted, rear door rubber strips replaced, the rear driver’s side handle replaced, the fuel filter mount secured, a new wheel cylinder fitted, the cambelt replaced by Reliance Garage, Glossop and a new battery. Spring 2022 saw a NOS Ford exchange radiator fitted along with poly-bushes for the front suspension and autumn of 2022 saw the wheels powder coated and shod with new tyres and the original radio refitted. The Sierra benefitted from an oil change in May 2023 along with new number plates, as the originals wouldn’t pass the MOT. Offered with an MOT (into May 2025) and the current V5C.
