BMW CSL Batmobile Gp2 ‘homage’ with FIA papers
We are very excited to present this individually commissioned, full 1974 Gp2 spec CSL Batmobile homage race car, complete with its FIA papers, qualifying for, amongst others, Peter Auto Series and the Le Mans Classic.
Commissioned by a genuine, committed enthusiast to an exacting specification – at huge cost – this ground-up, custom-made monster is not for the faint-hearted. We’ve seen a few of these type of builds over the years, and this one has had the whole team very excited – the attention to detail is as impressive as the quality of the build and the result is, quite obviously, fantastic.

The original donor shell was a 1969 E9 CS coupe. Our client then embarked upon a massive project, which is fully documented, and the pictorial history of this fantastic build is available by request.
The following spec sheet gives you a pretty good idea of what we are dealing with…
Chassis/ Body
– 1969 2800CS shell (UK v5 +VIN plate present) stripped & old roll cage removed. Old ‘bubble’ arches removed
– Acid dipped to bare metal.
– All rusty / repaired panels removed and replaced with new panels from Walloth & Nesch (W&N) or where unavailable, custom panels hand fabricated by Don Haldenby & team at AAMG in Hull (ex Stirling Moss). New triple ply sills, new A-pillar internals, new rear end panel, strengthened bulkheads. Strengthened rear suspension turrets, chassis rail to bulkhead and upper front inner wings +++
– New FIA Group 2 certified weld in roll cage fitted at Custom Cages UK.
– GRP Group 2 wide arch body kit fitted by AAMG. Zaprace GRP arches, roof & boot spoilers. Original CSL Aluminium Bootlid and Bonnet
– De-bracketed engine bay and chassis with false passenger side floor built to accommodate side exit exhaust channel.
– Deeper boot floor created with steel section to accommodate 120L fuel cell.
– Refurbished front light brackets from original and new Hella headlamps from W&N. Original side repeaters/ rear light clusters. (Rain light to be installed – wiring in place already)
– Welded in threaded seatbelt harness eye sockets for driver. Threaded holes for passenger belts & seat in place if needed at later date.
– Refurbished doors, New W&N Aluminium door skins
– Re-dipped, E-Coated, primered and painted Alpine White. Frank Stella M1 livery applied by signwriter in Hull.
– Plastics for performance rear window set installed. Original BMW windscreen and front windows installed on original wind-up regulators, with fully new BMW set of rubber window surrounds. Original chrome trims re-installed. Custom Aluminium rear window stays.
– Period Gp2 Engelmann Door mirrors
Suspension/ Steering
– Strengthened rear + front beams with custom made lightweight rear chassis mounts.
– Strengthened and modified rear trailing arms for larger brakes and coilover suspension.
– Cornering Force custom front wishbone setup and refurbished/ strengthened, height adjustable front struts.
– Bilstein rear coilovers with custom top and bottom mounts. Height adjustable.
– Bilstein inserts, Faulkner springs, custom top mounts,
– Refurbished LHD manual steering box, size adjusted & strengthened steering column, complete new steering linkage setup.
– New inner and outer front and rear hubs. New BMW OEM Driveshafts.
Drivetrain
– Lester Owen BMW 3. 5 M90 12 valve Dry Sump Race engine (0 hours) rated at 340hp @ 7000rpm.
– Setrab oil cooler, twin switchable electric Comex fans, Custom Aluminium Radiator
– Group 2 Steel headers from original BMW JIG. Modified inner arch as period to accommodate
– Side exit twin silencer exhaust for ‘quiet’ use ~101db static.
– Custom Remote Oil Filter Head, Bosch distributor, new OEM HT leads
– Ireland Engineering Engine mounts modified to lower engine.
– Getrag 265/ 5 Dogleg Gearbox Rebuilt by All Gears Worksop (0 hours). E30 M3 GpA Shifter/ CAE linkage
– AP Racing CP7372 Twin Plate Clutch, Custom slave cylinder setup
– BMW 3. 64 Sideloader LSD Rebuilt by All Gears Worksop (0 hours). Setrab Oil cooler with switched electric pump
– Refurbished, Balanced Propshaft with new doughnut, centre mount & fastenings.
– Goodridge G-Line Hosing & Connectors used throughout for oil systems.
Fuelling System
– 120L ATL Fuel Cell (not in date for European FIA use)
– Goodridge G-Line Hosing & Connectors used throughout for fuel systems
– Twin FACET Red Top Switchable Fuel pumps
– Malpassi fuel regulator
– Return hose in place in case of future switch to fuel injection.
Electronics / Interior
– ETA Circuit Breakers, Gp2 centre console (quick release)
– Custom Autosport Electronics Motorsport Wiring Loom througout engine and chassis
– Corbeau Revenge Carbon Kevlar Seat with Sabelt 6 Point harnesses (both new and in date)
– Strengthened Pedal Box with Drilled Ally Throttle Pedal & Footrest
– Italvolanti Original period CSL/ M1 BMW Motorsport Steering wheel
– GRP Quick-release Dash with VDO gauges.
– Handmade internal door cards. New OEM window winders, door handles and vent window adjusters.
– Lifeline Fire System / Remote power cutoff / activation from scuttle.
Brake System
– AP Racing CP2279 / CP2271 Calipers,
