Description
In 1998, the 122bhp five-cylinder Td5 engine became the standard option for the Defender, more powerful and refined than the outgoing TDi … the final Solihull built powerplant the TD5 would remain unchanged until 2007. We certainly feel the combination of a hardtop Defender 110 and the TD5 makes this Land Rover (a commission sale at Country Classic Cars) very desirable.
Registered March 2000 this 110 has enjoyed a more relaxed working life showing 3 owners and 92271 miles travelled. The current custodian took the reigns in 2014 at 70596 and has used its commercial abilities in his business ‘The Crafty Pint’ to deliver bespoke beers to special events and occasions in and around Sussex. The Defender became known as the ‘Pintmobile’ locally and an impressive history file shows recent services carried out in 2017, 2019 @ 82489, 2020 @ 85937 and 2022@ 89559 … brake pads replaced in 2019 and a new steering box in 2021. A recent exhaust box, fuel pressure regulator and for security new locks have been fitted plus alarm system with immobiliser and the MOT runs until October 2025.
Finished in White the exterior of our 110 presents well, complimented with standard black wheel arch extenders, grille and bumpers but as we always confirm here at Country Classic Cars we find it’s best to present a ‘warts and all’ detailed write up of any classic we are requested to sell. This helps to avoid ‘buyer’s remorse’ especially for those purchasing from abroad or interested parties travelling distances to view. Often difficult to identify via the images we noted a pair of small dents on the front of the n/ s front wing plus three similar blemishes on the n/ s door. Small amount of paint flake on the aluminium windscreen surround strip whilst the interior boasts grey cloth seats and rubber flooring. Basic certainly but power steering and a Pioneer MOSFET 50w x4 ensure some luxury whilst a Tacho has been fitted in the centre console. The cab is separated from the twin bench rear, this area is very clean and could easily be adapted to carry additional passengers. The large opening rear door allows for easy entry and carries the spare wheel which sits above a tow bar with single electrics.
On the road the TD5 is certainly more refined than earlier Land Rovers, the assisted steering is more precise whilst the 5 cylinder offers ample performance. The gearbox operation falls nicely to hand, sliding with ease through all five ratios and sure it will rarely embarrass a standard hatchback away from the lights; this off roader will truly go anywhere. They say a well-maintained Defender will go to the moon and back, after a ten minute test drive in this example you should understand why.
