A very rare vehicle
The Austin A40 Pick Up was introduced in 1947 alongside the two-door Dorset and four-door Devon Saloons, two-door Countryman, and Van. All were powered by a 1. 2-litre straight-4 OHV engine producing 40 bhp, with front coil sprung independent suspension but retaining a rigid axle and semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear. The Girling brakes with 9” (229 mm) drums were operated hydraulically at the front and mechanically at the rear.
Here we have a very nice-looking Austin A40 Pick-up finished in grey over black with a brown bench seat and a beige canvas load cover, which covers a very tidy load area. The Austin was built in 1952 and started life overseas - we are not sure where but the fact that it doesn’t have a heater but does have a sun visor fitted suggests it was a warm country, possibly Australia or South Africa. What we do know is that they were made between 1947-1953 and cost approximately £487 at that time, which was a lot of money back then.
The Austin sits very well and looks very good with its period badge bar and badges, and front period spotlights. It comes with the nice number plate ‘HWN 957’, which we believe is non-transferable but is very nice all the same. If this is your thing or you want a van that can be used for advertising, showing, etc. then this is something you need to look at.
