Description

MGB Roadster / RHD / 1964 / Heritage Shell Restoration & Exceptional Condition! £16, 750

We are proud to offer this superbly restored on a Heritage shell MGB roadster finished in the most desirable colour combination of Tartan red, complemented by a new black interior piped red, all finished with chrome wire wheels. This is a 4 speed example with working overdrive, so in effect it has it all!

Manufactured on the 21st October 1964 & receiving a new heritage shell in the summer of 1995 along with a no expense spared nut & bolt restoration. In fact the panel fit is very good indeed. The restoration works were conducted to a very high standard, photographed & look more a labour of love!

The current gentlemen owner based in Surrey has owned this splendid example for 13 years & maintained it regardless of cost, he even kept an Excel spreadsheet of his expenditure from day one to the current day. He & his wife have enjoyed some fantastic holidays in the car including touring Devon & the car has proved most reliable.

The most diligent maintenance lavished on the vehicle ranges from rebuilding the cabs & full tuning, through to replacement shock absorbers to fitting electronic ignition along with a new starter motor, through to replacing the chrome wire wheels & fitting new tyres.

The previous owner to the current, a gentleman residing in Oxted, Surrey, so not too far away spent a small fortune with our friends at Fisher Services in Sydenham over his tenure ship, with all receipts documented in the history file, again showing diligent no expense spared maintenance.

We have just completed a full external repaint of the vehicle & internal retrim all to a very high standard, more of which later.

The weighty history file that accompanies the vehicle shows that although MOT exempt, the car has been MOTd on a regular basis & looking at the stack of accompanying invoices from local garages & Fisher Services, maintained regardless of cost from the mid 90’s post restoration, which is always a good sign.

This amazing vehicle underwent a full nut & bolt restoration on a Heritage shell back in 1995 & has been used sparingly ever since. On close examination & in brief the works were conducted on a new shell fully primed & expertly painted before reassembly & included the engine which was replaced with a later 4 bearing example along with a recon gearbox with overdrive unit fitted.

Refinished in Tartan red – RD/ 9, The vehicle was fully rewired back to the new fuse board & a new full premium interior fitted, including, full door card set in black with red piping, full black premium OE carpet set, front seats piped in red along with a new premium soft top & refurbished hood frame with new front header rail. The dash board correctly finished in black crackle & expertly fitted up with reconditioned dials & gauges. The chrome work was all fully & professionally rechromed. The petrol tank, sender, pipework & all sundries were replaced, a new exhaust was fitted, including all brackets & clamps etc, new rad & all associated hoses, full brake replacement including all associated pipework & master cylinder etc. New SU carbs & all associated ancillaries. 4 premium wire wheels with new spinners & associated tyres were fitted. New oil cooler & braded pipes, All associated chrome work including , bumpers & overrides, all bumper ions, brackets & bolts, door handles, badges, front grille etc. were replaced. Throttle cable, speedo cable, all rubbers, trims & clips etc. were also replaced. New alternator fitted, all front headlamp fittings including upgraded lamps & all other lighting fittings & lenses were replaced with Lucus items. The heater box & levers were replaced. The rocker cover, washer bottle, holder & all associated window washer pipework including jets replaced. New ignition system, pedal box & sundries. The anti-roll bars bushes were replaced along with all engine mounts & sundries etc. This was a very compressive restoration & has stood the test of time beautifully, the receipts are on file for the parts & there is a comprehensive set of colour photos showing the works undertaken. In fact if I told you the car was restored 3 years ago, you would believe it!

Since being in our possession, we have been meticulous with our further preparation by undertaking the following works to our usual high standards. Undertaken a full & thorough external repaint to show standards including all door shuts etc. We used premium PPG paint & spent over 30 hours of preparation time, as the car had been grazed along the owner’s garage door! This alone cost in excess of £3500.

Our chromer Roy, has polished the wheel spinners, front & rear bumpers along with over riders, number plate light mounts, headlamp bezels & door capping’s. He also polished the front grille, bumper infill sections, associated chrome work & associated badges.

Our highly experienced detailer, then undertook a deep forensic clean of the interior after we fitted a set of new seat covers in black piped red, new period correct door cards also in black piped red with new clips, along with a new rear bulkhead panel naturally finished in black. Also a new black boot carpet set which we had specifically made by Terry our trimmer, also finished in black piped red to finish the period look.

Our detailer also spent 12 hours in the engine bay fully cleaning & detailing it after we had done the servicing work & painted the top of the engine block. We also lightly touched up the black wax on the underside & arches. We also fitted a new Tudor washer bottle, bonnet stop buffers. Fitted a full decal set. Spare wheel holding down bolt. Fitted a pair of new clip on sports mirrors, bonnet release cable..

We gave this vehicle a full service including oil filer & change with premium Castrol oil & filled the fuel tank with £40 of premium unleaded. We fitted new NGK plugs, brake fluid change, gear box oil top up & checked the distributor over. Fitted a new Lucas Sports Coil & tuned the carbs. We filled the rad with fresh water to antifreeze mix along with fitting a new rad cap. We also fitted new rad support brackets. We fitted a new chrome quarter light, chrome air intake grill, a set of premium logo front black over mats, new period number plates, Lucus reversing lenses, Front grill badge, battery lid cover, pedal rubbers, under bonnet insulation felts. New tool pouch to hold the jack & sundries. A new leather MG key ring & premium radio blanking plate.

Purchased a new Thor mallet for those beautiful chrome spinners. We also conducted a full pre MOT check over & road test.

We then also supplies a fresh MOT, naturally with no advisories. So as you can imagine this stunning example wants for nothing!

4 speed with working Overdrive – Battery isolator fitted.

The vehicle has excellent chrome wire wheels shod with great tyres, with a good painted wire wheel for the spare. It also comes with the original refurbished jack & new Thor rawhide wooden mallet for those perfect chrome spinners.

The vehicle is on the button and ready for those European tours. It is by far the best driving MGB we have had the pleasure in offering.

It certainly is an honest, genuine cherished example & looks resplendent. It has excellent panel fit, structure & undercarriage. The only minor item for the new owner to be aware of, are the doors need a gentle lift upwards as they are closed. Probably due to the new door seals being very firm & the doors being OEM replacements mated to the Heritage shell hinge positions. There may be cheaper examples out there, but they won’t be in this league - This one is not to be missed!

This stunning car is ready to show or just use on a daily basis. The car is on the button & ready to go, if it doesn’t get the asking price, I will keep this car in my own collection…

You could actually use this example for everyday use, transportation to the Revival, or as a contender at classic car shows & be proud of it in any circumstance.

As we are a Mercedes Pagoda and R107 specialist we are always happy to part exchange one of these type of cars or indeed any classic car of excellent quality, so please don’t miss this most fastidious example of the iconic MGB Roadster. This vehicle is exceptional value, try & find another as original & tax exempt Please remember you get what you pay for. Our cars are handpicked by a marquee expert & we turn down 8 or 9 out of every 10 cars offered. The cars we sell, are we believe the best of their type & are here to be viewed & driven in the UK. This takes the gamble out of buying a car direct from Europe sight unseen. Our stock comes fully de-registered from the country of origin with the ACI fee paid, UK MOTd, test driven, serviced & detailed. Don’t confuse them with other cars on the internet which have had dubious restorations & are offered with a low asking price. We have had 2 clients bring such cars to us recently bought direct from Italy & both were severe MOT failures with a list of faults ranging from no reverse gear to an undercarriage that requires total replacement. You have been warned! There is always a reason why a car is being sold cheaply! Again you get what you pay for

More photos available upon request, PX always considered.

We will always buy back cars we have previously sold.

Delivery by road, or packed and shipped, or air freight all possible by arrangement at excellent rates, car is ready to drive away today or be delivered to your door.
