Description
Hilton & Moss are delighted to present for sale this fantastic Ducati Desmosedici RR (Racing Replica).
The Desmosedici RRs roots can be traced back to 2001 with a special project announced from Ducati, culminating in the debut of the Desmosedici GP3 race bike for the 2003 MotoGP season. The GP3 took its first win mid-season at the Catalan GP, ridden by Loris Capirossi for the Ducati Marlboro Team. In 2004, during World Ducati Week at Misano Circuit, then CEO Federico Minoli announced that a low volume production run of a road going race bike replica would be available for reservation in 2006, with just 1, 500 examples being produced. Production eventually began in October 2007 and ran to December 2008, with customer deliveries taking place from January 2008.
Producing 200bhp and 86lb-ft of torque, the 'Desmo' features a 990cc, 90-degree V4 engine with the same 82mm bore and 42. 56mm stroke as the race bike, as well as the twin pulse firing order, providing a unique 'off-beat' sound. Smooth power delivery is experienced from idle all the way to its 13, 800rpm limiter. Internally you'll find the same titanium valves and gear driven cams with the desmodromic timing system also featured on the race bike. A 6-speed cassette style gearbox drives power via the chain to the 16-inch rear wheel.
The chassis, body design and aerodynamics are exactly as you'd find on the 2006 GP6 MotoGP machine. This includes the signature tubular trellis frame incorporating the engine as a stressed member, all manufacture materials and fittings used in construction as well as the technical features. It therefore carries across the same geometry as the GP bike and the self-supporting carbon fibre subframe and Marchesini forged magnesium wheels - a first for a production bike. With Ohlins FG353 pressurised forks (Another production first) and an Ohlins shock, no corners were cut in the build of this bike. The fairings, mud guard, heel guards and fairing bracket are all carbon fibre, with only a thin layer of paint for protection allowing the weave to be seen through the paint, akin to the Ferrari F40. The exhaust heat shield is made from a carbon ceramic composite material, with the '4-2-1' exhaust exiting at the rear through a vertical exit silencer in what would be the pillion seat. An LCD display is borrowed from the GP7 MotoGP bike, providing the rider with the necessary information on various screens, as well as featuring a data-logging facility.
The Brembo front brakes are the same as the 'wet' racing setup from the GP6 MotoGP bike, featuring dual semi-floating 330mm discs with dual 4-piston monobloc Brembo callipers. The rear brakes, again Brembo, feature a single 240mm disc with an opposed 2-piston calliper.
Two livery options were available with the RR. The first, a solid Rosso GP Red, with white Ducati decals and white tail fairing. The second was the Team Version, featuring the same Rosso GP Red but with a broad white stripe across the fairing
Likely one of, if not the best example available today, this particular Desmosedici RR is finished in the Team Version livery. Of the 1, 500 produced, this example is designated as number 1, 396.
Most notably, this RR has covered just 151 miles from new. Preserved in immaculate condition, having been displayed and stored in an indoor environment and always on trickle charge, it really does need to be seen in person to appreciate.
Sold new to France and first registered on 3rd August 2010, the bike remained in France until June 2017 when it was imported to the UK by The Bike Specialists. At time of importation, the bike had covered just 31 miles. Eventually registered in May 2019 by its one and only UK owner – an enthusiastic collector - the bike has now covered just 151 miles having been ridden just twice in perfect weather.
As part of the registration process in May 2019, a full service was carried out by Cornerspeed Ducati, an approved service centre. The service included renewal of all fluids, including engine oil and filter, brake and clutch fluids and coolant with additive. The battery was also replaced and charging leads hard wired. At this time, the 102dB race exhaust was fitted alongside the race-mapped ECU. The original exhaust and ECU remain present. Finally, the chain was lubed and adjusted and the chassis and electrical components were inspected. In 2021, both front Brembo calipers were overhauled and rebuilt by Ducati Cambridge.
This Desmosedici retains the original items that were supplied with the bike including:
Rear paddock stand
Branded cover
Original exhaust (Race exhaust currently fitted)
OEM ECU (Race spec ECU currently fitted)
Owners manual and service booklet
Two keys, with key coding card
Ducati Dating Certificate
Simply put, the Desmosedici RR is a Moto GP bike with lights and a number plate.
As one of the world’s most sought after and desirable bikes, this presents the perfect opportunity to acquire a piece of motorcycle history. An ideal investment piece of collector level quality, or perhaps the next display model for your home office or workshop.
