EXTERIOR
The Sport Evolution variant encompasses the true competition bloodline of the M3. Born out of the necessity for further race homologation this fantastic non-sunroof example features the final evolution wide front arches, extendable front splitter and staggered rear wing – improving and enhancing both aerodynamics and aesthetics. In one of just two factory colours available, this ‘Brilliant Red’ Evo III presents in superb condition with the vibrant finish exaggerating the perfectly proportioned box arches.
Bumpers retain excellent fit and finish, with model specific brake ducts in place of fog lights, while the aerodynamic rubber trims between bonnet and front wings have just been replaced.
INTERIOR
Stepping over the M3 sill strips into the high back seat is a drivers treat with all the controls clean, clear and easy to access. The proudly embossed M-Motif Recaro leather presents soft and supple with the deep bolsters maintaining excellent support and integrity, anchored by iconic red Sport Evo belts. The model specific suede steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake show a light patina as one would expect but maintain good colour and feel. Specified from the factory with Leather and AC this example is in perfect road trip specification.
The steering wheel links to one of the most communicative and exciting steering racks and chassis available and it is no wonder the E30 M3 has such a loyal following and rich race history.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This final homologation 2. 5 litre unit yields improved torque, resulting in a more progressive power delivery through the rev range and with around 20bhp up on it’s predecessors it cracks 60mph in a whisker over 6 seconds. The engine bay presents very tidily with much of the factory lacquer still to be found on the rocker cover and associated parts. Scuttle panel appears clean, tidy and free of corrosion whilst bonnet hinges and hardware appear excellent – a typical E30 problem area.
A full overhaul of the basic ignition system was installed last year; a new rotor arm, distributor cap, ignition coil, HT leads and plugs ensures the car reacts as it should with the first turn of the key. The revered dog leg box remains tight, tactile and easy to operate.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The wheels are the correct 16 inch BBS lattice alloys with Nogaro silver centres fitted with a fresh set of Yokohama Advan tyres.
Braking is assured thanks to a recent fluid replacement, whilst discs and pads show plenty of life.
HISTORY FILE
This Brilliant Red example has the original Libretto di Servizio stating delivery to it’s first owner by Motocar Verona on the 8th June 1990.
The car returned to Motocar for it’s running in service in October before 5 further trips to the supplying dealer until export to the UK in 1998. A combination of the main dealer and marque specialists would go on to service the car on a further 11 occasions up to 2013 before arriving with Munich Legends for a light restoration. Various mechanical and cosmetic work was carried out by ML over a two year period with detailed invoicing covering each and every nut, bolt and washer replaced.
More recently the car has spent some time in Switzerland with significant expenditure at both the main dealer and specialists to ensure the car remains in excellent turn-key condition. The original service book has been stamped 17 times, with the original Italian book pack complete and all invoicing present and correct since the cars arrival into the UK. The car is currently registered here with all taxes paid.
The number of Sport Evolutions now in existence with genuine provenance, low mileage and in the correct condition has now diminished to barely more than a handful worldwide; as such this particular car is quite exceptional.
