Safari Yellow – A Sight to Behold
Our classic Volvo P1800 is gleaming in our Gallery. In our opinion, the first owner had excellent taste. Safari Yellow with black upholstery is a gorgeous combination. Let’s be honest—these colors really brighten up the streetscape, wouldn’t you agree?
Thoroughly Restored with Beautiful Details
In 1970, the first owner received the keys to this P1800 in Sweden, and the car enjoyed a pleasant life there. It’s clear this example was cherished by true enthusiasts. A Volvo aficionado performed a “bare metal” restoration, handled meticulously, and it shows in the car’s tidy appearance. We’re providing various documents, including invoices and photos, that illustrate the work performed.
The body panels fit nicely, and the Safari Yellow color is an absolute treat for the eyes—just as we mentioned. The paint is of good quality, and the restoration was performed well. The chrome parts look very neat, as do the wheels, and the rubber seals are fresh and make a very good impression. You can really see the restoration efforts all around. Under the hood, the engine bay is beautifully detailed with correct components, looking as if it just rolled off the factory line. Given the scope of the work performed, that’s probably no surprise.
The interior, with its iconic steering wheel, is flawless. The dashboard is gorgeous, and the correct gauges with clear lenses leave a very polished impression. Just look at the carpeting—it pairs so well with the exterior in our view. The seat upholstery is clean and well-kept, making this Volvo a true pleasure to sit in.
Overhauled and Versatile
The Volvo P1800’s engine is known for its strong performance, and this example is no exception. Equipped with fuel injection and a manual gearbox featuring overdrive, everything is in excellent condition. This example has benefited from thorough overhaul work, including the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, and complete drivetrain. All of this is well documented.
The Volvo feels solid on the road, drives great, and there’s no mistaking you’re in a Volvo. Quality is evident everywhere—partly because it’s a Volvo, and partly thanks to the quality of the restoration.
Historical Background
For decades, Volvo has stood for safety, practicality, and reliability—yet in the late ’50s, Volvo decided to take a different path. The introduction of the Volvo P1800 ushered in a completely new direction for the Swedish automaker. Sporting a design that was unprecedented for Volvo, this model quickly attracted a devoted fan base—one that only grew when Roger Moore appeared in a beautiful P1800 in the famous television series “The Saint.”
