We're delighted to present this remarkable, and forensically restored 1983 Maico 490 Sand Spider, offered unused (zero hours) since the work was carried out. It goes without saying that this is a rare opportunity, and the bike must be one of the very best available anywhere in the world.
The Maico 490 is an iconic motorcycle that sends shivers down the spine of anyone who has encountered it. Indeed, since acquiring this bike from a trusted client, we've heard some great stories about these legendary machines.
This example, one of the very last produced, is simply breathtaking.
Essentially remanufactured, it has been completed with fabulous attention to detail and at considerable expense - the brief being to keep it as close to standard as possible. Components from Ohlins, Eibach, Magura, Clarke Racing, Supersprox and others complete a truly one-off bike. The engine was carefully rebuilt by Adrian White using many 'new old stock' parts (sourced exclusively from Bill Brown), some of which (like the cases, pistons and rods) are extremely rare in their own right. Though it can be considered ready to ride, the bike will require running in by the new owner.
It has a fabulous specification that we will happily discuss with interested buyers - there is simply too much to list. As ever, all inspections welcome.
