Description
CG6160 was originally delivered as a Le Mans Saloon to R. Dowler in 1934. However, after falling into disrepair, the car found new life in 1976 when it was purchased by David Taylor, a dedicated Aston Martin enthusiast. Over the next decade, Taylor embarked on an extensive restoration, recreating the car as a faithful replica of the legendary LM10.
Taylor shortened the chassis, built a new timber frame, and crafted a replica body using LM10’s original design as a template. The result was an aluminum-skinned body, originally intended for LM10 itself. With these modifications, CG6160 emerged as a close replica, capturing the spirit of Aston Martin’s racing heritage.
A Legacy of Racing Success
From 1988, CG6160 began its racing career, quickly establishing itself as one of the fastest 1½-litre cars of its time. With multiple race wins and new speed records to its name, the car’s racing pedigree was firmly cemented. Taylor’s two sons also competed with the car, creating lifelong friendships through their shared experiences on the track.
Over the years, CG6160 has competed at major venues like Zandvoort, Spa, and Portimao, and earned a reputation for success in events hosted by the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC), Aston Martin Owners Club (AMOC), and Motor Racing Legends (MRL). One of the car’s most notable achievements was winning the prestigious St John Horsfall Trophy with AMOC.
At the heart of CG6160 is its 1½-litre Aston Martin engine, designed to deliver exceptional performance on the track. This engine is equipped with a dry sump lubrication system, ensuring consistent oil pressure and lubrication even under the demanding conditions of high-speed racing. The dry sump system plays a crucial role in preventing oil starvation during hard cornering or prolonged high-speed runs, providing optimal engine reliability during endurance events.
CG6160 remains as race-ready as ever, with FIA eligibility ensuring it can compete in some of the world’s most prestigious historic motorsport events. In addition to the Le Mans Classic 2025, this car is primed for a variety of events, including hill climbs, endurance races, and classic racing series. With a history of success and meticulous preparation by experts such as Alan Brook Engineering, CG6160 is a standout choice for collectors and drivers alike.
