Description
“Collection by Vermant” is pleased to be able to offer you this very nice Mercedes 280 SL R107. The R107 series was the successor to the coveted and very successful Pagode series and was introduced in 1971. After an impressive 18 years the model was discontinued, making this the second longest production in the history of Mercedes. Only the famous G-class beats the R107, being in production to this date. The R107 was introduced in 1974 and came on the market with a variety of engine ranging from a 6 cilinder in line engine all the way to a 5L V8 engine. This specific Mercedes is equipped with the Inline 6-engine putting out a healthy 185 hp and is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
This specific 280 SL was delivered new to mister Roland Lommé, a famous Belgian and international TV personality from the end of the last century. He ordered the car from new and took delivery in January of 1980. Since he was often chauffeured around in other cars, not a lot of miles where put on his beloved Mercedes. Today it shows only 81. 000 original kilometers, which is very low for a R107. throughout the years the car was regularly maintained by either Mercedes Benz Dealers or in recent years Mercedes Specialists. This makes that it still drives like it came out of the factory 44 years ago. Today this 280SL is still equipped with all of its original accessories. The original hardtop is still present and in excellent condition. The factory toolkit is available in the luggage area to accompany the spare wheel. The documents that make up the history of the car are also quite impressive. Besides numerous service invoices, the complete and original document map is still present and in new condition. This comprises of the manuals of the car, the Clarion warranty card, the original service book with daten karte and also the original bossed identification plaque with the details of the car and first owner. These are in their own an extreme rarity, and combined even more so.
This SL was ordered in the beautiful colour of Classic White (737). This suits the car very well and contrasts the black mohair roof of the car nicely. The presence of the hardtop, makes this car an all year round cruiser giving the best of both worlds and also protects the softtop roof during harsher winter conditions. Around the car we can see the small details that make this car so special and help us to understand why the car was so popular. The engineering of every single part was to the highest of levels and this makes that these cars are able to withstand the test of time with ease. Going over to the interior, we can find a beautiful Black leather interior that is in almost brand new condition. The thick black carpets accentuate the luxurious character of the car even more. The dashbord of this 280SL was finished in a very classy dark brown wood. This gives the car some extra life in the interior and also adds to the luxurious look and feel of the car. Throughout the interior we can see and feel that this 280SL has been well cared for throughout its life and much time and effort was made to keep the interior in almost brand new condition.
