1972 T-ROOD AUTO CORVETTE
*** WALK ROUND VIDEO AVAILABLE ON REQUEST ***
The car has been in the UK since 1990 and during those last 34 years it appears to have had just 4 owners, one I believe owning the car for over 20 years.
THE GOOD - An absolute small fortune has been spent on this car and the underside especially is quite superb. The frame is beautiful, prepared and painted well. The A-arms plus many other parts have been powder coated. In fact the whole undercarriage drips with new parts.
Check out the photographs to view the recent parts fitted .... new rear spindles, new Bilstein shocks all round. Then, courtesy of Vette Brakes & Products, the car has new Grand Touring front coil springs plus their adjustable strut rods & poly bushing throughout, all new power steering control valve and hoses, even a new VBP mono leaf rear spring complete with hangers etc. New brakes throughout, all rotors, flexi pipes plus calipers have all been installed all round. Then we have a new petrol tank complete with sender unit, new outside door handles plus all the car's emblems replaced.
Now add to that four new BFGoodrich whitewall tyres and a complete new exhaust system.
Now add to that the mechanical work that has been done. It looks like a complete engine rebuild some 5, 000 ago which included brand new Edelbrock RPM aluminium heads, a complete new Mallory ignition system including dizzy, an Xtreme Energy Cam/ lifters, Cloyes timing chain set with chrome cover, a new Holley 670 Street Avenger carb on a matching aluminium inlet, Headman Headers into a full Flowtech stainless exhaust.
Now add to that a TH400 box rebuild complete with a B&M Holeshot Converter and you can soon see where the money's been spent. Now check out the interior which has also been fully refurbished at some stage. Good carpets, good black leather seats, consoles, rear compartment lids, door cards etc, everything just in a generally very nice condition, even the dash top and fronts are in fine order. The tilt-tele column, power windows etc all work well. The car's chrome-work is very good, very decent bumpers and bumper guards, plus the weather-seals are all in good shape - all things that usually cost a fortune.
NOW THE BAD - the car has been stood in dry storage for the last 2 years and generally requires recommissioning throughout. We've replaced the fuel with fresh and charged the battery and the car struck up and ticked over nicely after a trickle was poured into the carb. So it runs, drives, ticks over well, no smoking when revved, stops, changes through the gears all ok, but it's still a car to give a thorough once over before use. Currently the tacho is disconnected as a past owner has fitted a fully working aftermarket unit which you can see in the pictures. Overall the paint presents very well, but after saying that you can find the usual patch of fine micro blistering plus the odd chip & scratch that's been touched up. I think the worst fault we've spotted is an apparent vacuum leak somewhere on the headlamp/ wiper deck lid system, that's definitely a job to do. The car appears to have had new headlamp actuators but the system still want checking out. A new radio mast is required as the old one is snapped off. Finally the car appears to have had a recent set of headers installed, both of which have a slight gasket blow.
So that's about it, quite rare to find a chrome bumper C3 that's clearly had such an absolute fortune spent on it, let alone a last of the line 1972, but still needs jobs doing. The car comes with a huge box file of invoices covering most of the above.
With fully restored '72s listing at £35K+ in today's market, this car must be the ultimate winter opportunity at this price for someone.
£17, 500 may p/ x, especially another Vette.
