Description
Wolseley and Riley versions of the 1100 MK1 were produced for just two years from 1965 until 1967 making them quite rare today with just a handful left on UK roads. They were something of a sweet spot in ADO16 production; build quality is perhaps better than later cars and they were certainly more lavishly trimmed with leather seats and various other attractive early features.
This car is a late MK1 Wolseley 1100 in its original colour scheme of Farina Grey and Trafalgar Blue with blue leather interior. It was supplied new by Tilley’s of Weymouth and the original purchase invoice shows several extras, including oil pressure and ammeter gauge, “Dowty” engine fan, reversing lamp and parking lamp.
We have sold this car twice before, both times due to the advancing years of the owners. It was in the hands of just two owners, husband and wife from new until 2008. In 2013 it was treated to a high quality body re-paint by Clevewood Gararge. The next owner carried out a substantial round of spending included re-chrome, gearbox re-build with new clutch, new exhaust, and an expensive interior re-trim with new leather to the front and rear seats and various other replacement parts.
In 2017 it won its class, best MK1 in the ADO16 nationals – the condition has mellowed slightly since all this work is completed but the car is still excellent and the paint finish is more or less blemish free with the exception of the odd minor imperfection. It drives beautifully – just as well as it looks with a lightness to the controls that you’d expect from a well cared for example.
The total mileage is less than 69, 000 from new – two speedometers have failed in recent years, the original in 2016 at 60k. We have just replaced the cable, drive and installed a new “old stock“ speedometer with zero miles. A small piece of cable was stuck in the drive which caused the failures. The old units are with the car. Additional re-commissioning that we have carried out includes a long list of minor cosmetic jobs, an engine service, new old stock voltage stabilizer and new thermostat.
This Wolseley comes with every document from 1967, including original service book, bill of sale, “BMC” drivers handbook, workshop manual, original sales brochures, also a heritage certificate various related publications, new and old V5’s, a substantial number of invoices and a copy of our advert when we last sold it.
Twin carburettor luxury versions of the ADO16 are surprisingly hard to find – this is one of the rarest derivatives in beautiful order and offers great value.
