Description
W124 CE320 (straight six) with Sportline chassis and 5-speed gearbox. Mechanically excellent, with an extensive service history file. Oil & filter every 5, 000 miles for the last 100, 000 miles plus regular auto box services and various other jobs done, like the wiring loom, water pump, radiator, anti-roll bar, springs, and so on - so she drives very nicely. Long MOT to August 2025. Colour is actually charcoal with cream interior.
The interior is very good and completely original, with only slight wear on the bolster, a perfect dash, very good leather on the wheel and gear knob, nice wood trim etc. Working sun roof. All speakers good and work well with the Clarion stereo (with AUX input and mobile phone lead), though I have the original Blaupunkt. All manuals also present, with service history in book up to 112, 000 (when I bought her). Copious records since then.
She looks great in these pictures, and in the flesh from about 10 feet, but up close there are numerous little imperfections as you would expect from a car of this age and mileage.
The main problem, though, is rust. The front passenger jacking point has collapsed and I've been told that the car is not likely to pass its next MOT without some welding in this area, including inner and outer sills. There is also visible rust in other places, notably the driver's door and rear wheel arch, and I suspect that if the plastic lower door panels are removed there will be more to deal with.
I have owned the car since 2017. The previous owner bought her earlier that year and had re-commissioned her after a 10-year period off the road. Before this 10-year period she was used by a lady who sadly died. Her husband then stored the car for 10 years.
I don't believe she has ever been involved in an accident - the panels seem very straight and the fit very good, including the doors. She has had (in my time) new front wings (genuine Mercedes). The front, white indicator lenses are tatty but I have the original orange ones which are in good condition. The spec. includes air conditioning (not working, needs a pump, I believe), and a long range (90l) fuel tank which means I usually get 500 - 550 miles from a tank (and around 30 mpg, thanks to the 5th speed in the gearbox perhaps). I'm not a fast driver, but I have occasionally put my foot down to check the kick down (works well, dropping two gears if necessary) and handling at speed (also great).
Other faults include the electric aerial which became intermittent then stopped, a slow but still working passenger electric window, the electric head rest adjustment on the driver's seat (I can hear the motor but headrest doesn't move), driver's seat butler sometimes goes on strike (is fine at the moment). Sound insulation under the bonnet is tired.
Personal plate has come off - now has JUI 5936 on her, the number she came to me with.
