Description
Ever since the 1920s, Bentley has built and maintained a proud motorsport heritage that includes winning Le Mans four times in a row (1927 to 1930), returning in 2003 to win Le Mans once again, and more recently, successfully racing in various GT series around world.
Introducing the formidable Bentley Continental GT3-R. A homologation special from Bentley, built to commemorate Bentley's Continental GT3 racer.
Limited to just 300 examples worldwide, with just 35 cars being supplied to the UK, the GT3-R is much more than just a 'stickers and badges' special edition.
Built on the Continental GT platform, the twin-turbocharged 4. 0 litre V8 engine (As found in the GT3 racer) lies at its heart, having been tweaked by Bentley to an impressive 572bhp (Up from 521bhp) and 516lbs of torque, it is capable of moving from a standstill to 60mph in just 3. 8 seconds. The 8-speed ZF transmission has also received treatment by way of a shorter final ratio, increasing the overall acceleration. To complete the drivetrain, power is sent to each corner and all four of the 21" gloss black and multi-spoked lightweight forged wheels. To compliment the engine, a lightweight Akrapovic titanium exhaust system is fitted, providing a thunderous sound track.
But it isn't just under the bonnet where Bentley have made changes. The springs, dampers, anti-roll bars and even suspension bushes are stiffer all round. The ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system has been refined and the implementation of torque-vectoring within the rear diff has been added to assist with turn-in stability when cornering. Torque is shared between axles with a 40:60 front to rear split, although up to 85% can be sent to the rear during extreme cornering. With both Drive and Sport modes, the driver has a choice between a refined grand tourer or a sharp supercar.
The carbon ceramic brakes were at the time, the largest to be fitted to a road car with the front discs measuring an impressive 420mm. The equally large calipers are finished in a subtle, yet elegant British Racing Green which ties in with the rest of the cars theme. The exterior of this GT3-R is finished in Glacier White with contrasting twill patterned carbon fibre elements including front splitter, twin bonnet vents, mirrors, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. The car also features a subtle livery comprising of two-tone pinstripes and GT3-R logo embellishments.
The interior remains Bentley through and through, maintaining the luxurious fit and finish you'd expect. Finished in a combination of Beluga Black leather and alcantara, carbon fibre and a contrasting green leather upholstery the interior feels luxurious whilst maintaining purpose.
The lightweight sports seats are finished with a central quilted alcantara with a green contrast stitch, completed by leather bolsters in black with a green accent stripe. The leather headrests feature an embroidered GT3-R logo in green and white stitch. The seats themselves are heated and fully electrically adjustable, complete with memory function. The door cards also feature the quilted alcantara and contrast stitch, with leather arm rests and surrounding accent stripe. The main ‘door card’ is unmissable, finished completely in carbon fibre, just as you'd find in the GT3 racer the car pays homage to.
It’s an all carbon fibre affair elsewhere in the interior. The three-section dashboard, centre console, overhead console, sill covers, lower B-pillars and a large rear deck are all finished in single-piece carbon panels enhancing the interior.
The steering wheel is trimmed in both leather and alcantara, with the green contrast stitch and features a purposeful 12 o’clock stripe, also in green. At the centre of the dash, a large touchscreen provides all the access necessary for the radio, sat-nav, vehicle information and telephone connectivity. An analogue Breitling time piece sits at the top of console adding a further touch of class.
Bring the seats forward and you’ll find a beautifully recessed rear bench area, also finished in the quilted alcantara with green stitch and swathes of carbon fibre. It’s this attention to detail throughout that sets the unique GT3-R apart from the competition.
Under the bonnet, and in keeping with the rest of the car, is the rare optional carbon fibre engine cover pack – a £3, 000 option – adding a further special element to this already special vehicle.
In summary the GT3-R is a rare, high-performance race-inspired machine with a striking presence and exquisite finish, that celebrates the success of a British motorsport legend. The full and comprehensive specification of this Bentley can be shared upon request.
