Description
Jaguar Mk IX (4 Speed ZF Auto): Simply Superb
The Mark IX is a four-door luxury saloon produced between 1958 and 1961 by the Jaguar Motor Company and is arguably one of the most aesthetically pleasing sport saloons of this classic era of motoring with stunning lines, opulent comfort and brisk performance - there is very little not to like.
Similar to the Mk VIII but powered by Jaguar’s fabled twin-cam straight six 3. 8 litre engine and sporting 4-wheel Dunlop disc brakes with power assisted steering the car was a genuine Gentleman’s Express and was popular with the public, press and the criminal fraternity alike.
History:
Milestones are delighted to market this breathtaking Mk IX supplied new in Pearl Grey with red leather upholstery and consigned through Henleys of London. The Jaguar was sold by Peerless Motors in Slough to the first owners, Venetian Vogue Ltd in Berkshire, and dispatched on 28th April 1960. The car was registered at this time with the company’s private registration mark ‘VV 1000’.
Condition/ Upgrades:
The Jaguar is an exceptional driving example and while in the custodianship of the three previous owners has had a huge level of expenditure, refurbishment and (reversible) upgrades to make this the finest driving Mk IX that we have had the pleasure to market.
The car retains her original 3. 8 which was rebuilt by the renowned Jaguar expert Ken Jenkins with new main and big-end bearings, polished crankshaft and over £10, 000 was spent on the four-speed ZF auto-gearbox upgrade that transforms the driving experience. Other upgrades include spin-on oil filter, Dynalite alternator, electronic ignition and a front anti-roll bar to improve handling.
Bodywork:
Cosmetically the Jaguar was treated to fastidious underside preparation, the engine bay has been detailed and much of the chrome renewed. The Mk IX was resprayed in her original colour scheme a number of years ago and the finish remains outstanding – the true test of any restoration.
Interior:
Simply superb - new carpets, upholstery, door cards, headlining etc.
Conclusion:
Available at a fraction of the refurbishment/ upgrade costs the Jaguar drives every bit as good as she looks with willing performance, smooth gear changes and steering and suspension that inspire total confidence.
Need to be seen and driven in order to be fully appreciated…. we love her!
