This is the final year of the fifth generation Thunderbird (1967-71), a 1971 Ford Thunderbird and the much advanced and more luxurious version from the previous generations. Moving closer to the Ford company's luxurious Lincoln marque with the same chassis and wheelbase as the Continental with a body on frame with sophisticated rubber mountings to reduce any noise or vibration and reduce weight with this being the top-of-the-line Landau model which cost some $5, 804 in 1971 (over $46K in 2024).
In 1968 the Thunderbird saw the introduction of the new 385 series Big Block 'Thunder Jet' 4 Barrel 429 cu in (7. 0L) V8 engine which was conservatively rated at 360HP which made these later model Thunderbirds the quickest and fastest ever produced!
In 1970 the Thunderbird was even more stylistically updated with the addition of a large bird's beak-style projection out of the grille with the legendary Ford president Semon 'Bunkie' Knudsen reportedly responsible for the dramatic change. In 1971 there was a 'Neiman Marcus' his and hers editions offered in its catalog which were priced at $25K for the pair (almost $200K in todays dollars!)
This particular example must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated - a very striking example in original factory colors which turns heads wherever she goes! The engine is extremely strong and responsive with excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks and which sounds absolutely magnificent, the automatic transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the engine temperature always remains cool.
Owned since 1984 by only its second southern California owner, this must be one of the finest example's available anywhere of this increasingly collectible and desirable 1971 Ford Thunderbird 429 4BBL V8 2 Door Landau Coupe which will surely prove to be a wonderful investment for the American classic car collector or Mustang enthusiast! A rare turn-key ready daily appreciating and daily head-turning condition example of an all time classic America icon!
