Description
Here we have a wonderfully presented, 43, 000-mile example of what many argue as the last great MG sportscar, the TF 160. Almost as iconic as the MG brand itself, this car bears the 1. 8L K-series twin overhead cam engine making it a through and through British sporting convertible
It arrives to us with magnificent X-Power grey paintwork, a pristine black soft top, and an exceptional interior of black and burgundy. The seats are trimmed with an Alcantara centre and leather outers, which are both comfortable and supportive. This MG came with a great specification, having electric windows and mirrors, 4 pot callipers which are painted in red innkeeping with its very sporty looks, and staggered fitment wheels.
To take this delightful car out in the Yorkshire Countryside was a thrilling experience. The 1. 8L twin cam engine pulls fantastically well, and the large callipers provide great stopping power, but the most significant and notable thing was the handling. This car has fantastic balance, and with its low centre of gravity, it has great traction round the windy roads. As you would expect from a motor company that has over 100 years of experience building sports cars, the MG TF pulls together all that experience and makes BX54GYR a great value fun car to own.
The K-Series 1. 8L twin cam engine had proven very popular as not only is it the power plant in the MG TF 160 but also finds itself in Caterham and Lotus cars of the era. The K-series has an interesting story as Austin Rover had to fight for the permission to develop an engine in the UK rather than using the likes of a Honda engine of the time in their midsized cars. Anticipating the emissions controls that were to be imposed, the design engineers of the K-series had to be on top of their game, and that they were. This ensured that the British car manufacturers could use a British engine in their sporting line up of cars.
This TF has a comprehensive history file of purchase invoices and receipts showing it has been a very well-kept car. In 2018, a Rover specialist has carried out the cylinder head gasket replacement along with replacing the rocker cover gasket, timing belt, and waterrump kit. K-Series Engine Specialists Kmaps have put a new upgraded ECU in this MG providing better fuel economy, performance, and throttle response which you can really feel on the road.
This fun MG TF160, has been preserved remarkably well, and would make for a great weekend car. This car will come with 12 months MOT and a full service.
