Description
The ancestry of the Alfa Romeo Duetto started with the Pininfarina designed Spider Speciale Aerodynamica shown at the 1961 Turin Motor Show. Concept to production took a little longer in those days so the Duetto only came into fruition in 1966. Initially it was not well received and quickly earned the nickname ‘Osso di Seppoa’ (cuttlefish).
The name ‘Duetto’ came about from a competition held by Alfa Romeo to distinguish the car from its Giulia 105 series stable mates, the coupé and berlina and was accepted for its reference to the two seat layout.
Built in Italy February 1969 confirmed with certification from Alfa it was exported and lived in South Africa until 2022.
Around 2019 she was subjected to a comprehensive restoration including bodyshell, mechanical rebuilds colour change from red to white then exported to the UK in 2022.
Only one Alfista has owned her in the UK and the standard of work is superb with the underside as well finished as the bodywork.
The interior is red leather and the hood mohair really setting off a higher standard than the original vinyl interior fitted in 1969 !
On the road she drives beautifully and even as a 1300cc she is quick and free revving as only twin cam Alfas can be.
