Description
In 1984, when the new Nurburgring circuit opened, Mercedes displayed 20 of its cars for a presentation race. The ‘race' was made up of several F1 World champions. Among them big names like Moss, Hill, Hunt, Lauda, Prost… and one Ayrton Senna! The race was merely for publicity purposes, but the Brazilian “kid” took it seriously. He had his first duel with Alain Prost and ended up crossing the finish line 1st.
If this event was a good showing for the future F1 champion, it was even better for Mercedes. The Stuttgart brand used this race to present its new sports model – the Mercedes 190 2. 3 16V.
Although it was born with rallying in mind, it was in touring races that the 190 thrived. Mercedes ‘delivered’ the 2300cc 8V engine to the English company Cosworth, who made it into a true competition engine. With an aluminum head, double valve timing and 4 valves per cylinder, the 2. 3 16V Cosworth engine delivers 182 PS. The redline appears as 7000rpm, 100km/ h arrives in less than 8 seconds and the top speed is 230km/ h. Great numbers even 40 years later. And let's be honest, if it's good for Senna, it's good for you!
Imported from the Netherlands in 1997, this 2. 3 Cosworth is a 1987 model and is prepared for moments of great fun, as it is tuned for rallies and circuit racing and carries the Portuguese FPAK technical racing passport - which means it is also 100% road legal.
The safety equipment is very complete – it has a fire extinguishing system in the engine compartment, electric cut-off, 6-point roll bar built by Safety Devices and OMP bucket seats with 6-point SPARCO harnesses. It is also equipped with Bilstein shocks, BOSCH auxiliary headlights and is delivered with two sets of wheels, including the iconic 15 inch Penta wheels shod with Toyo Proxes R1R.
