This superb build was bought from the late great Paul Scholes in May 2012 as a pile of many bits.
Paul had bought the Riley from a Mr Startin who ran a market garden who, in turn, had purchased the car from a scrapyard to use as a tractor! The body had been removed and a rudimentary flatbed fitted.
Fast forward 40 years to 2012..... Paul asked Roger Simpkins to find someone to take on the challenge of rebuilding the car with a suitable period body. Roger, of course, being a talented woodworker and having rebuilt and restored many Rileys, took the task on.
Over the next 12 years Roger rebuilt the whole car. Plans for a new body were drawn up and built with a beautiful wood and fabric boat tailed body, "V" windscreen and ingenious 3 position hood.
The Riley has covered some 130 miles since finishing and will need further running in and a fluid change. Only for sale owing to Roger's health this car is a testament to his consummate skills.
