Description
1937 MG VA Four seater tourer.
Grey over black with lovely blue trim and black mohair hood and side-screens.
The VA model marked an entirely new range of MG’s, built to a very high standard with some advanced features and lively performance. The 1550cc overhead valve engine with twin SU carbs produced a decent 55bhp, good enough to take the car to 80mph with the windscreen folded and coupled to a slick 4 speed gearbox with synchromesh on the top 3 speeds. Lockheed hydraulic brakes (all replaced in 2016) provide excellent braking, making this a very usable and easy to drive pre-war car that’s happy to cruise at 55mph on A and B roads.
Our car is believed to have been in one family ownership until the current owner purchased the car in 2022, it comes with an original MG instruction book, petrol ration book in an envelope dated 13 Nov 1939, a green logbook showing RFL stamps in the 1960’s and a current V5. We understand the car was repainted in the 1960’s and this is now nicely patinated; much more recently the upholstery was completely retrimmed in blue and the hood and side screens re-covered which remain in excellent condition.
Having covered nearly 500 trouble free miles in our ownership she is now ready for immediate pleasurable use on VSCC events.
