The Bultaco Sherpa 159, released in the late 1970s, is a legendary trials motorcycle that played a pivotal role in shaping the sport. Renowned for its lightweight design, precision handling, and rugged performance, the Sherpa 159 is a favorite among enthusiasts and collectors alike. Its lightweight steel frame and slim profile enable riders to navigate technical sections and challenging terrains with remarkable ease. The suspension system, featuring telescopic front forks and dual rear shocks, provides excellent damping and control, ensuring optimal traction in diverse conditions. The Sherpa 159 also features a high ground clearance and wide handlebars, offering improved manoeuvrability and stability. Bultaco's innovative engineering, such as the easy-access air filter and user-friendly maintenance design, set new standards for trials bikes of its era. Not only did the Sherpa 159 excel in competition, but it also earned a reputation for reliability and versatility, making it a popular choice for both professional riders and weekend enthusiasts. Decades later, the Sherpa 159 remains an icon, symbolizing Bultaco's commitment to performance and innovation in trials motorcycling.
This lovely example of the iconic Sherpa trials motorcycle was purchased by the current vendor two years ago, it only being put up for sale due to advancing age and knee issues. Prior to their ownership, the machine was subject to a total ground up restoration (see restoration images on file) and is presented in restored condition but will need the usual safety checks and recommissioning before returning to the road. Offered with a V5C, aforementioned restoration images and workshop service manual.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
