EXTERIOR
Hand-assembled by Porsche and endowed with a powerful 5. 0 V8, the E500 is one of the ultimate 90s Q-cars. Finished in Sapphire Black Metallic over grey, this particular example is one of only a few hundred ‘Limited’ models built towards the end of the E500’s production run. Looking around the car the very dark blue paintwork presents to a high standard with a deep shine and little more than a few minor chips and discreetly touched-in blemishes to evidence the mileage. The headlights are crystal clear and the original Evo-Design alloy wheels are excellent with no major kerb marking to report. Having resided on the salt-free roads of Japan for most of its life the underside of the car is also well presented.
INTERIOR
A treat for surely any Mercedes-Benz enthusiast, the E500’s well-appointed interior is a great place to be. Open the door and you’re greeted by heated electric Recaro seats in striking leather upholstery that’s unique to the Limited model. The bolsters are generally excellent but some patination to the centre panels is visible. There are no cracks on the dash, the headlining is unmarked, and the wood veneers have a great shine although a keen eye will note some lifting lacquer on the centre console. Out on the road everything feels nice and solid with no annoying rattles or creaks, further testament to the superb fit and finish that Mercedes of this vintage are so well known for.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
At the heart of the E500 is of course the 5-litre Mercedes-Benz V8. The engine bay here is really well presented, not overly dressed but in excellent original condition with no signs of accident damage or previous poor repair. The car has very recently returned from a full engine strip and rebuild to the tune of £7, 700; this work was completed by Nickson Motorsport in September 2024 less than 150 miles ago.
HISTORY FILE
This rare E500 Limited was built in May 1994. It was delivered new as a company vehicle one month later before finding its way to Japan in approximately 1995. In 2016 it was imported into the UK by a London-based specialist and since then it has seen only 2 private keepers. The current owner of 7 years has used and enjoyed the car for the last few thousand miles, and during his custodianship it has been looked after by both Mercedes-Benz Guildford and Nickson Motorsport in Chiddingfold. In 2023, £4, 425 was spent at Mercedes on refreshing the front brakes along with various suspension components, and most recently the car benefits from a full engine strip and rebuild with a new timing chain, skimmed heads, etc.
Within the accompanying History File the lucky new owner will receive the original E500 Limited leather document wallet pouch with handbooks, an original German-market E500 Limited sales brochure, a raft of maintenance invoices totalling more than £18k since 2016, MOT certificates, the current V5C showing only 2 former keepers, and a spec sheet detailing the car’s factory options and further verifying its authenticity with option code 958 (“special model – Limited”).
