Motodrome are pleased to offer this utterly charming early 1950 Land Rover Series 1 80in lights behind grille model.
Chassis R06106109
Engine 47102346
An original UK car, according to it’s heritage certificate it was built and dispatched on 4th Jan 1950 to C Allen and Sons Limited of Taunton, and first registered 16th January 1950. The registration number appears to be the original.
Fitted with a matching set of Avon Traction Master 600x16 tyres, Exmoor Trim hood, and a towbar, but otherwise standard.
Odometer reading 6000 miles (which is presumably incorrect and hence should be disregarded, although given the low ownership, you never know), and the V5 shows just 3 previous owners, with the owner prior to us having had it since 2001 and the owner previous to him 1994-2001
LYC is quite a well-known vehicle and features on a fair amount of Series One memorabilia such as mugs, cups etc. It was the subject of a painting by Trevor Mitchell ‘a veteran’s day out’ and we have a printer’s proof copy of the picture.
It’s recently emerged from our workshop having had a thorough check over, including a full brake rebuild with the correct (and expensive) early Series One parts, and now goes (and, more importantly, stops) as it should do.
It’s on it’s original green-painted chassis, and, whilst the heritage certificate isn’t helpful here as it doesn’t show the original engine number, the engine visually looks like the period-correct 1. 6 as it has the earlier rocker cover. but with the engine number 47102346, it's a 1954 2. 0 unit
It is, of course RFL, MOT and ULEZ exempt, and is rather lovely in my opinion.
On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
