Description
In 2002, Ford presented the GT40 concept car, which by all accounts was a recreation of the legendary Le Mans winner Ford GT40, built from 1964 to 1968 at NAIAS. The concept car formed part of the “living legends series” in which Fort recalled early legends like the Thunderbird and the Mustang. In the short time leading up to the 100-year celebration of the brand in June 2003, a engineering team turned the GT40 concept into a production car within only 16 months. Between August 2004 and September 2006, a total of 4’038 examples were produced. Of those, 101 were destined for the European market and of all those only around a dozen reached our shores. Beneath the visually little changed coachwork (all dimensions had grown by about 10%), modern technology was employed. The term “40” referring to the 1964 car with its height of exactly 40 inches, was not used since the new creation was 43 inches high. Our example, in black Ebony with a black leather interior, was delivered in Switzerland and in January 2006 was handed over to the first owner through Garage «Grimm Sud» in Plan-les-Ouates. In 2010 the GT, then showing roughly 5’000 miles, was taken over by the 2nd and so far last owner, added to his collection and used sparingly. With now only 5’800 miles driven (9’300 kilometres) and a full service booklet this rare bolide is in outstanding original condition. The 5. 4 litre V8 with its compressor delivering 550 horsepower is running perfectly and delivers breathtaking performance through its 6-speed manual gearbox. In February 2024 at 5’798 miles, a Ford GT certified workshop performed a major service and replaced the pneumatic bonnet struts as well as both airbags. The gorgeous sportster with its most recent MOT from October 2017 is now ready to be enjoyed by a new enthusiast.
