Description
The Chevrolet Corvette C2, introduced in 1962, was the second generation of the Corvette with the moniker Sting Ray. In difference to its successor, the Corvette C3, the designation was still written with a space between the two words. Designed by Larry Shinoda under the guidance of GM head of design Bill Mitchell, the C2 was built between August 1962 and July 1967. Examples of the big-block C2, available from 1965, were easily distinguishable by a prominent bulge on the bonnet. The large engine required more space and therefore the bonnet had to be modified accordingly. Initially the very potent V8 displaced 6. 5 litres (396 cubic inch) but from 1966 a 7-litre (427 cubic inch) engine was available. The Corvette offered is the most desirable of those big block models and was ordered with the option L71 a 7-litre V8 with three carb setup delivering 435 horsepower, coupled to a 4-speed manual gearbox. It was originally delivered in the USA and a mere 3’754 examples in that year were built with this specification. The history of this gorgeous icon is not known. It is obvious though, that a number of years ago, it was restored to 100% original specs. Around 10 years ago, the car was taken over by the vendor in the USA and imported into Switzerland. After preparation for the very stringent local MOT the Vette was first presented to the authorities on the 22nd July 2016. Since then, the C2 has been lovingly maintained but due to lack of time has only been driven around 300 kilometres. Now the owner has decided to pass his beloved Sting Ray on to the next owner. A rare chance to acquire an absolutely splendid Corvette in top condition with the most sought-after engine-gearbox combination, matching numbers, original colour combination and the latest veteran MOT completed in August 2022.
