Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The December Timed Online Auction on Wednesday the 18th of December, Online. Background:
Introduced in 1955, the 'Mk1' (later known by this name after the launch of the Mk2) helped Jaguar strengthen its dominance in the UK’s high-performance car market. It filled the gap between the larger MkVIIM saloon and the XK140 sports car in Jaguar's line-up. This new, mid-sized model marked a significant departure for the company as it was the first to feature unitary construction for both the chassis and body. Powered by a 3. 4-litre engine delivering 190bhp, the car could reach a top speed of 120mph and accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just nine seconds. However, pushing the car to its limits placed considerable strain on the drum brakes. As a result, all-round disc brakes were quickly introduced as an optional upgrade and became a standard feature soon after.
The Car:
This 1958 example was originally supplied in America, where it spent the majority of its life before being brought to the UK in 2019. Since then, it has had just two owners. Now converted to right-hand drive, the car drives well and has been in regular use since the current owner acquired it in 2020.
The odometer shows 94, 576 miles. MOT testing is up to date, with a valid MOT through to July 2024. The only paperwork accompanying the Jaguar is its V5C.
Sadly, much of the car's history was lost before it was brought over from the US, and other than some invoices in the UK, it does not carry a great deal of history.
The body is solid but does have various rusty parts, none of which are structural. As a historic vehicle, the Jaguar is now exempt from MOT testing, but it was tested last July and passed without any advisories.
The beautiful 3. 4 straight-six engine still purrs like a cat should, and the gearbox remains perfectly smooth, ready to use and enjoy.
Summary:
A lovely machine for someone who wants the thrills of a proper Jaguar, enjoys tinkering, and wants to save some money compared to a show-winning example.
