Description
DWJ810 is one of just 308 11. 50 models built between 1933 and 1941, this example built 1937 was delivered new with a Brough side car to the Sheffield Police force, the powerful JAP 1150cc side valve engine with it’s extra torque being ideal for this job.
It was part exchanged two years later for an SS100 model. It’s whereabouts were unknown until 1959 when it was acquired by W. H. Andrews of Nottingham who kept the bike until his passing in 1963 when it went to Brough Superior Club founder member Barry Robinson, who in turn sold it to another BS club member - it apparently rested in his cellar, complete but in boxes until 1990 when bought by Richard Munns who kept the bike until 2001, by this time the side car had been removed.
The next owner, John Phizacklea carried out a comprehensive and detailed restoration, the history file has a large amount of parts invoices for this work, plus notes and correspondence with the Brough Club. It subsequently has had another two owners, but not much use until the last owner acquired for his collection in 2020.
This fine example remains in truly excellent condition, the restoration work has had time to mellow leaving the bike with a really nice finish that does not befit the age of the work. It was awarded a 3rd place in the pre-1960’s class at the Stafford Motorcycle show 2022.
A matching number example it also retains many of the important original parts, and is supplied with a copy of the works record card, a buff RF 60 logbook dated back to 1959. It has had recent full check over and is in fine running order.
