Description
R. H. Lea and G. I. Francis started making bicycles in Coventry in 1895 and branched into car manufacturing in 1903. The company produced some notable motorcycles and automobiles, but financial difficulties were a recurrent problem and the company finally ceased trading in 1962.
The 14HP Four Light made a real impression when launched as a modern, stylish sports saloon in 1948. The model was aimed directly at the discerning, upwardly mobile professional who wanted a sports saloon that could be driven with vigour but could also cope with family commitments when required.
At Milestone Classics we do like to keep a small number of 1930/ 40/ 50’s cars in stock for our customers. With Jamie’s keen eye and knowledge, we have developed an enviable reputation for selling the nicest, most usable and keenly priced examples from this era of motoring,
Our stunning Lea-Francis was first registered 28th March 1951 and has spent her entire life in and around the Elgin area of Scotland. The buff logbook indicates that the Leaf received a new gold-seal engine in 1964 and a colour change from Maroon to Black in 1957.
Mechanicals:
The car drives extremely well. The twin-camshaft engine is lovely and mated to the four-speed gearbox makes for a very capable car easily able to cope well with modern road conditions that is a real pleasure to drive.
Bodywork:
Bodily the car is charming. The traditional ash-frame/ aluminium panel work received attention as required (pictures on a show board with car) around fifteen years ago and still presents extremely well with excellent panel fit and a deep shine to the paintwork.
Brightwork:
Very good with a light patina.
Interior:
The seats/ door cards were retrimmed when the bodywork received attention. Also has a new roof lining, carpet set and rear blind. The original dashboard and steering wheel perfectly compliment the re-trim - it is simply a lovely place to enjoy your journey from.
History File:
There is a small history file with original buff logbook, old style V5’s, invoices, contemporary handbooks etc. The car retains her original two letter/ four-digit Edinburgh registration number.
Summary:
At Milestones we have a genuine appreciation and love of cars from this period of motoring. They are stylish, fun to drive, sociable to own, always in demand for film work and simply represent incredible value for money in today’s market.
We recommend an early viewing and test drive.
