Description
1950 Jaguar XK120 Open Two-Seater.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate confirms that this Jaguar XK120 was manufactured on the 19th of April 1950 and supplied to Hoffman New York, USA.
It was an open two-seater in LHD, Chassis #670226, engine# W1478-8, body number F1295.
After ten years the XK was sold to Frank Robert Day in 1960, Frank had worked with race teams including the C-Type Jaguars at Le Mans
Frank Day decided to significantly lighten the Jaguar in the style of a C- Type Jaguar where the body hinges at the front and the rear. The end product is a very lightweight XK120 but still retaining its original steel body that could be used for racing or fast road.
He fitted a Corvette 283 V8 Fuel injected engine and was clocked at 157 MPH !!. The car was known in the US as “The Day Jaguar Special.”
Many years later whilst still in the US the Jaguar was restored and re united with its original XK 6- cylinder engine and gearbox. The engine was rebuilt including the fitting of a Jaguar C-type cylinder head and 2x H-8 2″ carburettors. Interestingly it was converted to RHD, painted British Racing Green with black leather C-type seats.
The car was shown to Frank Day for an emotional reunion in 1990.
The XK was purchased by the current owner and re imported back into the UK in 2019. It has been UK road registered MXS 853.
Since 2019 the car has had improvements made to bodywork to allow for the bonnet to be opened without the need to lift the complete front body, fitment of a luggage space and external petrol filler etc
At the same time the leather was improved by Aldridge trimmers. The car had all its mechanical components serviced and upgraded where required
This is a unique Jaguar XK120 special that is extremely fast and like no other.
