Introduced in 1968, the Saab 99 marked a pivotal point in the history of Swedish automaker Saab, helping establish the brand’s reputation for innovation and durability. The 99 was built with a focus on safety, aerodynamics, and durability in harsh weather conditions, reflecting Saab’s roots in aircraft manufacturing. Its robust construction included a pioneering use of a wraparound windshield and headlamp washers, both of which were designed to improve visibility in adverse conditions.
We are pleased to offer this 1983 Saab 99 GL in ivory (cream) with tan velour interior. First registered in January 1983 and supplied by Adrian Smith Motors Limited in Aberdeen, it is pleasing that the original dealer wallet is still present containing the Owner’s Manual, SAAB service card, Pioneer stereo manual, SAAB Safeguard card and a collection of tax disks back to the 80s. Dealer registration plates are also present front and rear, as it the dealer sticker in the rear window - a nice touch.
The car appears to be in completely original specification and is all the better for it and is in really lovely condition overall. In two-door form, the 99 is arguably the prettiest of the Saab models being extremely well proportioned and compact by today’s standards. The ivory paint contrasts nicely with the tan velour trim and the seats are clean and free from any obvious rips or tears. The headlining is a little baggy in places and the wood trim on the dash a little 'crinkly' but other than that, the interior ambience is good. There are also SAAB foot mats fitted in the front and rear - another sign of a well cared for car.
The car appears to have been recommissioned in 2023 with bills amounting to nearly £2500 in the file, and now comes with the benefit of an MOT through to November 2025.
On the drive for the video, we noted the rev counter wasn't working. No warning lights were present.
There are only apparently 70 GLs on the road which makes this car a rare fine. Notwithstanding the rarity, the car itself is very usable with plenty of room for passengers and luggage.
Overall, a rare and very usable classic in good condition with a sensible reserve price. Not to be missed !!
