Description
This excellent driving Lotus Elan Plus Two is well known to us and has been with a regular customer of ours for six years Upon his purchase in 2018 he used our Bodyshop to have it professionally resprayed and now presents in a wonderful Dark Green with a lively yellow racing stripe and side decals. Ahead of marketing the car, over £7, 500 spent on fully going through the car after a period of no use, this includes a new clutch kit, clutch master cylinder, brake master cylinder, new rear brake discs, brake pads, handbrake pads, rear wheel bearings, new engine mounts, steering column bushes, and 4 new tyres.
Back in 2003 the Elan was subject of a five year rebuild having spent eighteen years off the road. The car was rebuilt on a brand new Spyder chassis and still retains its original engine and gearbox which have both been rebuilt. For reliability, a Burton Cartridge water pump was fitted along with QED pistons, electronic ignition, high torque starter and in improved radiator with electric fan. The Lotus was fully re-wired with two new looms to accept modern fuses and relays, a new alternator fitted and a very expensive stainless-steel manifold was handmade and fitted. The Lotus was also treated to new galvanised inner sills, Sue Miller solid drive shafts and Tony Thompson Racing adjustable front suspension. The interior was re-trimmed in Italian soft leather and a new headlining and dashboard fitted with re-conditioned instruments. The bumpers were re-chromed, and the car then put back on the road after an eighteen years absence. Since then the car has covered little over 8000 miles.
From 2012 to 2018 the Lotus was owned by a classic car enthusiast who lives in our local village of West Knapton. Over this period of time, the Lotus had been serviced by a local Jaguar specialist and was proven to be totally reliable and usable on a daily basis. We then sold the car on his behalf and now returns to us as vastly superior car having had some serious expenditure over the past six years. Sixteen years on and over 8000 miles since restoration, the Elan is in very good order. The chassis still looks incredibly sharp with a lovely shine, the engine has nicely run in with excellent oil pressure and having been serviced annually it is well kept up too and on the button. This is a real user and something to take long distance touring without hesitation. Its great fun to drive and performs superbly and is strong mechanically.
