Description
This is a very interesting car! It is a 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Series III GT, which is the rarest of all the Alpines! It is a GT with Hardtop but also comes with a Soft Top and Frame and also a tonneau cover. She is showing 73k Miles from new and has a very impressive history file! She is finished in her original colour of Autumn Gold Metallic, possibly the rarest Alpine colour, she has an uprated 1725cc Holbay engine by Coltec and is in a beautiful condition!
This impressive Sunbeam Alpine Series 3 has lead an interesting and eclectic existence from road car specification, to race and now to fast road specification. A rare hard top GT with an even rarer soft top, this example was first restored in 1989 for classic racing and hill climbs to an extremely good standard and has been an ongoing labour of love ever since. Most recently, it was purchased from a former track racer, who in his seven years ownership race prepared this alpine, attended and raced at meetings across Europe with a degree of success. In order to be competitive, a race prepared 1725cc Coltec Engine with twin 40 Webers combined with a 4 speed Gearbox and 3/ 4 overdrive was prepared along with up rated suspension, brakes and steering. Since its purchase, the previous owner has returned the car to the road. Mechanically, the suspension brakes and steering have been checked and reset due to previous use on the track. The head has been re-skimmed and a new gasket set has been fitted, combined with new plugs suitable for the road, as originally hot running plugs were used. Finally, the tappets have been reset and the engine tuned. In the last owners' own words, "This Alpine goes fast!", due to the 130 bhp Coltec engine and Weber set up combined with being 100llbs lighter than the Tiger option V8, "This will eat tigers for breakfast". We recommend to potential suitors to review Coltec and their pedigree with engine builds on - details above
A very impressive box of service history records accompanies the car since 1989 dated in order of invoices, events and any point of interest. Original Rootes manuals, repair manuals, photographs, notes, letters and other various pieces of memorabilia can also be found within the history file. In 2015, this GT benefited from a full re-spray in its correct and original Gold, the roof in race gloss Black and a re-trim of seats combined with replacement of rear seat panels. The car has also in recent times received a new starter motor, solenoid, Stainless Exhaust system, Brake Discs, Recon gearbox and overdrive, clutch. She sits on a set of Mistral (Minilite style) Alloys. The Mileage of 73k may well be genuine but cannot be warranted but she has only covered 13k Miles in the last 35 years. A couple of modern additions have also been sympathetically fitted; an alternative heater, fan and light controls and an iPod connection to supply music to the footwell speaker system. This car sold at Historics Auction in 2016 for over £17, 000 and the last owner also paid this for the car in 2021, and it has just been in his collection since. The car is now available at a significant discount to this price. This Alpine is truly a one off example sure to put a smile on any Sunbeam or classic sports car enthusiasts face. Viewing is highly recommended, as is a significant time set aside to review the extensive history. The previous owner used the car for European Touring extensively and in 2018 she won the Angouleme Concours! This is a very interesting and rare Alpine, unrepeatable!
