For 1958, Chevrolet was given a little more breathing room in the sports car class as Ford had dramatically enlarged the Thunderbird and repositioned it as a "personal luxury vehicle". To help capitalize on this, GM's designers updated the car with new styling featuring quad headlamps, hood louvers, and chrome trunk spears. For 1959, the styling was revised with the removal of the louvers and spears along with a new interior. Engine options remained the same, as did the availability of extra performance options including positraction, a four-speed manual, and high-performance brakes.
With its much cleaner styling and new trailing rod arms in the suspension, the 1959 Corvette was well-regarded by critics and enthusiasts alike. The updated interior not only increased comfort, but also support for high-performance driving. As such, the 1959 model year is considered one of the finest of the first generation and is the perfect choice for any Corvette collection.
