Description
First unveiled at the 2001 Frankfurt Auto Show, the 4200 GT replaced the outgoing 3200 - Like the predecessor, the design was penned by Giorgetto Giugaro of ItalDesign, and under the hood the displacement was increased to 4. 2L with the crossplane crank Ferrari / Maserati F136 V8 along with other refinements. Upon launch, the 4200 was crowned ‘Forbes Best GT’ for 2001.
This particular low mileage example is one of only 3, 134 Spyder ‘Cambiocorsa’ models ever produced (All at Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena, Italy), in one of the best colour combinations available - ‘Blu Mediterraneo’ with ‘Nero’ leather and ‘Blu’ hood. Currently owned and marketed on behalf of Sir Jack Stewart-Clark of Dundas castle, Scotland. Running and driving well, but ready for some light recommissioning after averaging only 200 miles per year over the last decade.
Exterior
The ‘Blu Mediterraneo’ exterior presents exceptionally well, and has been clearly stored indoors and under cover when not in use - There is no notable damage, with only light stone chips commensurate with age and mileage. All brightwork is present and shines exceptionally well with no pitting, along with all trim. The rood canvas has no tears or worn areas, and is the much sought after later model with the glass rear screen. I have noted one small dent visible at some angles on the rear wing, as well as some light marks on some of the alloy wheels.
Interior
The Nero interior again presents well. all trim is correct and present, and heating, heated seats, and infotainment all work correctly. The Maserati does suffer with the ‘sticky buttons’ common on this era Maserati and Ferrari, and the airbag leather has delaminated on the steering wheel. All leather is in good condition, with no fading or cracking and the only wear being on the drivers bolster.
Mechanical
Mechanically, all feels very tight and the car drives exceptionally well - The fantastic F136 engine pulls well, and maintains temperature and pressure’s. The CambioCorsa gearbox shifts exactly as expected, and the sound is second to none thanks to a Larini exhaust system!
The vehicle has recently been MOT’d, with the advisories below reflective of it’s lack of use:
Both front brake discs worn
Both rear brake discs slightly corroded
Both rear tyres slightly worn on edges. 265/ 35/ 18
NSF wheel slightly distorted
Both rear suspension coil springs corroded
Front anti roll bar corroded
Rear anti roll bar corroded
Slight oil leak
Having been under the car, all is solid with expected signs of surface corrosion which can of course be expected on any vehicle of this age - I can provide a video of the underside of the vehicle.

While we try and take the time to describe the car as thoroughly as possible, as always with a classic car there are quirks that cannot reasonably uncovered by us here - Although, it’s these quirks that make us fall in love with classic cars! Please do consider this when purchasing a classic vehicle.
