Produced across four distinct generations (in ten different series) from 1968 to 2019, the Jaguar XJ has always offered a uniquely sporty take on the traditional executive luxury sedan. The first generation was offered up through 1992 in various guises, though had largely been replaced in 1986 by its successor, the 'XJ40'. A significant redesign of the chassis and body panels provided a far stiffer and lighter car, while advancements in interior design and technology offered increased comfort over the outgoing model.
Further updates in 1994 (the 'X300' series) and again in 1997 (the 'X308') introduced updated styling and improved safety. The 'X308' series also simplified the engine lineup, with a V8 replacing the long-running Inline-6 and V12 motors. A supercharged XJR was also offered for those looking for maximum performance. As expected of a top-level sedan, the XJ was offered with a plethora of standard and optional features, with even the "base model" XJ8s offering a power sunroof, heated power front seats, automatic climate control, and a trunk-mounted CD changer. With a far more limited production in comparison to their German competitors, XJs reward their owners with both exclusivity and remarkable driving dynamics.
